JOHANSSON, DAVIS, LONGORIA GIVE VOICE TO WOMEN’S MARCH

-

From Viola Davis and Eva Longoria to Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman — a number of celebrities joined in for the second Women’s March in Los Angeles, USA, to denounce President Donald Trump’s views on immigration, abortion, LGBT rights and women’s rights on Saturday (January 20), the anniversary of his inauguration. With the theme, Hear Our Vote, the demonstrators advocated for women’s rights and equality, amidst the muchtalked about #MeToo and Time’s Up movements. The celebrities addressed the crowd and spoke for change, betterment and equality.

Celebrities such as Viola Davis and Scarlett Johansson rallied thousands of people to march in protest against President Donald Trump, at the LA Women’s March.

People clutched handmade signs that read “Grab ‘em by the midterms”, “This is my resisting b***h face” and “Voting is the best revenge”. Many participants wore pink hats protesting Trump’s lewd remark of “grabbing women by the p***y”.

This year’s march took place amid the #MeToo and the Time’s Up movements against sexual harrasment. The event also saw musical performances and fiery speeches also against Trump’s immigration policies.

Academy-award winner Viola Davis urged protesters to be more politically active and to put pressure on the government to work for all.

Representing the Time’s Up campaign, actor Scarlett Johansson said that in the recent months, she had begun examining why sexual harassment is so frequent.

Of her own behaviour, she said she had previously felt the need to be polite to the powerful in order to get along. “It allowed me to have the approval that women are conditioned to need,” she said. But no longer,” she added.
