My career has been a mixed bag so far: Nimrat Kaur

After The Lunchbox and Airlift became big hits, actor Nimrat Kaur wasn’t seen in any Bollywood projects. She explains why

After teaming up with actor Irrfan for the film The Lunchbox (2013), and getting paired with actor Akshay Kumar in her next film Airlift (2016), actor Nimrat Kaur remained out of sight from Bollywood. The Pilani-born actor says there were a “number of offers”, but she wasn’t able to take them up because she was busy her other commitments.

In a candid chat with us, Nimrat says she hasn’t been “fortunate” enough to be able to do more work. “I think so far it (her career) has been a mixed bag for me. I have been part of really great projects, but it is true that being part of some of those projects made me give up on a few films,” she says. Currently, Nimrat can be seen in the web series The Test Case, which marks her debut on the platform for digital streaming services.

“After Lunchbox, I was shooting for (American TV series) Homeland, for almost half a year in the States (US). So I was away for that period of time. Then, I was shooting for Airlift. Shooting dates for the film were so staggered that I could not commit to anything else, because my time wasn’t my own. After that, I was again in the States (US) for six months, shooting for (American TV series) Wayward Pines. And then, The Test Case came up, and shooting for that also was slightly staggered,” the 35year-old actor explains.

Although Nimrat is happy to have been a part of such projects, she does confess that it has also been a “testing time”. She says, “So, as you can see, three or four times, I haven’t been fortunate. I was getting (a lot of) offers, but I couldn’t take them up because I was involved somewhere else. I have lost out on a lot of work. 2017 was a really testing year for me, and it tested a lot of my patience. But, now that the The Test Case has started airing, I am excited about the future and what it has in store for me.”
