‘Ashmit and I will have a destination wedding this year’
Another celebrity couple is ready to say, ‘I do’. After a surprise engagement last year in Spain, actors Maheck Chahal and Ashmit Patel are planning to tie the knot this year end. And in keeping with the current fad of destination wedding, the couple is set to have a low-key ceremony outside of India, ala Virushka.
“It will be a destination wedding. I’m born and raised in Norway, so my whole family lives in Norway and half of Ashmit’s family is in Europe. Our wedding will take place in the second half of this year. We are yet to zero down on the date,” says Maheck.
The couple have known each other for more than 12 years now but have started dating only a few years ago. Maheck feels that the concept of a grand wedding ceremony with extended families no longer makes sense.
She says, “Even Anushka had a small, intimate wedding. Everyone is doing that. It makes more sense. We will have a small intimate wedding attended by family and close friends. I don’t want to get all worked up in my wedding. It makes sense to have a small wedding and go for a grand honeymoon.”
However, Maheck is yet to get into the bride mode as she is busy renovating their house. The actor says that before getting married, she wants to get their home ready so that the transition is easy.
She says, “People get married and then renovate their houses. We are doing it the other way around. We want to spend money in our house because we are going to live there.”
The couple have shared screen space for the first time in the film Nirdosh. “I want to work with him again. I want to do a period film or a story set in a village in which we get a chance to be in a different zone,” she says.
