Actor-singer Shruti Haasan is still unable to understand why was she trolled for gaining weight for her role in the film Behen Hogi Teri (2017). The actor, who added some extra kilos only for the role, is clueless as to why was she fatshamed for a “job”.

“It was the job which asked me to gain weight. I still don’t get it why people were bothered about it. The way the role was and the character was, I think it looked fine, and people liked the film. It’s weird that people point out things that are natural. There’s a certain way how human body goes, and I don’t understand those who make fun of that,” she says.

Haasan says she loved playing Binny — the chirpy, mischievous girl, who, given her family and background, needed to be slightly fuller. “I loved Binny. It was so different from all the other roles I had earlier played. Behen Hogi was a very different film and that’s the kind of work I want to do. I watch so many movies, and there’s such great content that you want to be part of,” says the daughter of actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika.

Apart from Bollywood, Haasan also works in regional films, and while there “isn’t much difference” in the “nature of the work” she is proud to be a part of multiple film industries.

“I was born in a multicultural family. So, working in regional films and Bollywood has never been a big challenge for me. There isn’t much of a difference when it comes down to the nature of work as an actor. But having said that, I think I’ve never even felt the burden of working in different regional films. It’s been done so smoothly. The transition from one language to another has been so smooth, and I am proud of it,” she says.
