Won’t sign a film just to be in circulation: Nushrat Bharucha

It’s not as if I don’t have offers. But why should I have a set number of releases in a year? Just to be in ‘circulation’, should I do one random film jahaan mujhe maza bhi nahi aa raha, achha nahi lag raha?

NUSHRAT BHARUCHA ACTOR

Actor Nushrat Bharucha’s upcoming release, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (SKTKS), has got a good buzz going for it. While she says that she has always given 100% to all her films, she reveals that she’s pinning all her hopes on this one.

“When I did Akaash Vani (2013), I gave it my all. I worked on it for almost a year and a half, and didn’t take up any other work.” Nushrat says.

She adds, “I had thought that the film would change equations and things for me, regarding prospects and career. Unfortunately, you can’t predict (whether the film will be a success or not). The film didn’t work.”

Nushrat, who believes in keeping the number of films she does, to very few, says, “That role and character was different, so I just took it up thinking I will get the kind of work I want in life, not bothered by success or failure. I have taken the same leap of faith with SKTKS. I haven’t gone out there and taken up any other work.”

Her first certified hit was Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011) starring actor Kartik Aaryan. And it’s sequel, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 (2015) also did well. SKTKS will be her 11th film in a decade-long career.

“It’s not as if I don’t have offers. But why should I have a set number of releases in a year? Just to be in ‘circulation’, should I do one random film jahaan mujhe maza bhi nahi aa raha, achha nahi lag raha? Acting is not just my work; this is what I live for,” says Nushrat.

She adds, “When I am not working, I feel like a day has been wasted. I am more than willing just to watch the monitor and others’ performances. To waste my energy and talent on doing a film out of which I am not getting anything is devastating. I have purposely not taken up anything else, I want to see this film though, and waiting for peoples’ reaction.”
