Television actor Akshay Dogra says that he has always had a soft spot for theatre and wanted to perform in front of a live audience. And now, he is excited not just about starring in a play but also co-writing one.

“It’s a collective effort and an immersive experience. Aditee Biswas is directing the play, and on stage it will be Swaroopa Ghosh [of films such as Piku (2015) and Pink (2016) fame] and I.”

The actor, who played a negative role in his last show Waaris, adds, “The play is a love story between a young man and an older woman. It’s about how two people in a relationship, at times, lie to one another and to themselves.” Akshay says that this is his first genuine attempt on stage. Before this, he along with the cast of his hit show Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? performed a comedy on stage in Dubai. The actor shares that they are currently working on the play that is expected to premier in April. They are also planning a multi-city tour and looking at going international with the production.

“The play is based in a café and we are thinking of staging it in a real location. So where ever we travel with the play, we have plans of tying up with a local café,” he says.

Given that the theatre scene is brimming in Mumbai, ask Akshay if he plans to balance TV projects and stage, he says, “I would love to. Theatre is something that I would love to be a part of more often.”
