TEEING OFF FOR A GOOD CAUSE

This golf tournament will give young talents a chance to compete at the Windsor Castle

One of the most anticipated sporting events in the country is back and all set to tee off on February 24. The Madhavrao Scindia Golf Tournament, to be hosted in Gurgaon, will see 124 of the Capital’s leading corporate, businessmen, and celebrity golfers, come together to honour the memory of the late Madhavrao Scindia. The tournament, in its 13th year, will not only be raising funds for the Scindia Foundation that works towards the health and education of the underprivile ged, but will continue to support the careers of young and talented golfers. The event is also looked forward to by the best in the golfing circuit, with its reputation of supporting budding golfers, such as Asian Tour winners Rashid Khan of Delhi, Chikkarangappa of Bangalore, and the current number one amateur in India, Diksha Dagar of Delhi. The young player in focus this year is 19-yearold Arjun Prasad of Delhi, who will be receiving a cash award from the foundation, intended to give his career a boost.

Much like the previous years, this edition, too, will have a global dimension to it — the tournament will serve as the Indian qualifier for the Duke of Edinburgh World Final in London. The two winners will represent the country and compete with ace golfers from around the world at the private course of the British Royal Family at the Windsor Castle. This will be followed by a formal awards dinner attended by members of the Royal Family, at the state ballroom.

This year, participants at the prestigious tournament include Member of Parliament Jyotiraditya Scindia (son of Madhavrao Scindia), business leaders Rajiv Singh, Aakash Ohri, Rana Kapoor, Pankaj and Aditya Munjal, Sunam Sarkar, Rakesh Batra, Mohit Talwar, Rajesh Sud, Tushhar Malhotra, and Vishesh Khanna, along with former cricketers Ajit Agarkar, Madan Lal, Murali Kartik, and Nikhil Chopra.

“It is indeed very satisfying to see this tournament grow in stature over the years and be on the world map. We once again thank DLF for hosting the tournament, and also all the supporters and friends who gather annually for a good cause. I wish the participants best of luck, and hope that our winners go on to perform admirably at Windsor Castle during the World Final,” says Jyotiraditya Scindia.
