Anant Singh, a debut filmmaker, has come up with a short film, which he has not only directed and produced, but even acted in. About the story, he says, “It’s a crime thriller, with a little bit of the Stockholm syndrome, in which the victim falls in love with the kidnapper. Also, we came up with the title, Wintersun, because the lead actor is trying to find warmth where she cannot.”
About his interest in filmmaking, the 27-year old says, “I always wanted to experiment with films, and tell stories. Becoming a director was the biggest decision I made. I even found a role suitable for myself in the whole story. My inspiration is American actor-filmmaker Ben Affleck.”
Every filmmaker and actor harbours Bollywood dreams, but Anant reveals why he didn’t go down that lane. “Honestly, I wouldn’t know how to do that. I never tried to hustle and find a producer for my film. Luckily, we found a good cinematographer. Ours is a very elaborate 26-minute film, almost like a 3-hour film packed into that time. There’s never a dull moment in the film. The story deals with approximately 15 characters, and their timeline is not linear; it moves back and forth.”
Short films like these have to make rounds of various film festivals, and if the film is indeed good, only then do they get noticed. Anant agrees, “It’s painful to see mindless videos get millions of views in hours, whereas people who actually put in effort have to work harder.”
