This marathon celebrated fitness with diversity and pitched for social cause
Recently, one of India’s leading education group, — Amity University Gurgaon — held its prestigious annual Amity Gurugram Marathon (AGM). Runners that include NGO volunteers, professionals, students, conditioned athletes, runners and more than 18,000 participants from about 20 countries joined this marathon. This was one of the biggest marathons in the NCR region and has seen a surge in participation ever since its inception, five years back.
On this occasion, chancellor of Amity University, Dr Aseem Chauhan, said, “At Amity, we diligently pursue the spirit of sportsmanship and good health through a series of programs and the marathon is part of it. What makes Amity Gurugram Marathon unique is our endeavour to weave together a wide groups of NGOs and social actors to drive awareness and trigger action on social problems.” Amity Gurugram Marathon has tied up with many NGOs and will help them to spread awareness about causes supported by them.
NGOs such as Akshaya Patra, Amity Humanity Foundation, Care, Oxfam India and Save the Children were a part of the marathon. “Through this marathon, we are not only celebrating diversity with fitness but also aim to create a positive impact on our society,” added Dr Chauhan.
The marathon usually acts as a platform for NGOs to create a coalition of socially conscious citizens, who can contribute to bring a positive change. From corporate honchos to professional athletes, who compete at an international level, the marathon attracts thousands of running enthusiasts.
The Amity Gurugram Marathon is an annual event organised by Amity University Gurugram, a leading university which has an 110 acre campus at Gurgaon.
