Gary Oldman’s son defends him against resurfacing domestic abuse allegations
Oscar-winning actor Gary Oldman’s son Gulliver has defended the actor over claims of domestic abuse. The allegations have been levelled by Donya Fiorentino, the actor’s former wife, and Gulliver’s mother.
Gulliver, 20, criticised “clickbait journalism” and accused his mother of forever raking up a domestic violence incident, which, he says, never happened.
“It has been troubling and painful to see these false allegations against my father being written about again, especially after all this was settled years ago,” he says.
“It’s a shame to see that clickbait journalism or judgment by headline is designed to make one jump to conclusions,” he said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
Gulliver also said that his father was never at fault and there has only been innocence and not guilt, on his side. “My father is my one and true guiding light. My only hero. He is the man I aspire one day to become. If I could only become even half as great and half as pure. I was granted the good graces of his fatherhood as a child to be raised by him and only him. For that I am eternally grateful every day.”
Gulliver further says that the fact that his custody was given to Oldman, after the latter divorced his mother in 2001, is proof enough that Oldman was not a wife-beater.
This came after Fiorentino took to Twitter to accuse the latter again. She wrote, “Congratulations, Gary, and congratulations to the Academy for awarding not one but two abusers with Oscars,” also referring to former NBA star Kobe Bryant, whose Dear Basketball got the Oscar for the Best Animated Short Film.
Last month, Fiorentino had called her marriage to Oldman a “nightmare” and said that he hit her in front of their children.
