To recite magical verses is a gift from God: Murad Ali
Ali, who will perform at JahaneKhusrau festival relates with its message of peace
Murad Ali performs at Jahan-e-Khusrau World Sufi Music Festival every year. And that he’s Muzaffar Ali’s son, the man who leads the show from the front, is not the only reason.
Murad, a performing artist who specialises in poetry recitation, is also one of the leading voice artists the country has, but it is perhaps performing at this annual festival held in Delhi, that’s closest to his heart. “Jahan-eKhusrau is Muzaffar Ali’s brainchild, but the reason why I love performing in it, goes way beyond family ties. Bringing together the works of some of the most revered and prolific Sufi writers through the performances of leading artists of our times, Jahan-eKhusrau spreads the message of love, peace and universal brotherhood – something we really need right now,” says Ali, who has also acted in Bollywood films such as Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin (1996) and Haasil (2003).
A poet at heart, he aims to write his own verses at some point in his life, but for now, he is happy to recite the works of the likes of Baba Farid, Amir Khusrau, Rumi and Shah Niyaaz, among others. “Each of us have a gift from God, mine is the ability to recite magical verses, with the intensity and depth, for which I earn appreciation from people,” believes Ali, who will recite three poems of Sufi poet Raaz Niyaaz today at the festival, at Humayun’s Tomb.
