A tribute to the unsung heroes of the country
The storyline of Raid, which is based on the longest income tax raid the country has ever witnessed, has already piqued curiosity among many, and the film hits theatres today.
Set in the ’80s, the movie has been extensively shot in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The movie stars Ajay Devgn and Ileana D’Cruz in lead roles. Ajay portrays a valiant income tax officer, Amay Patnaik, who conducts a raid at Rameshwar “Rajaji” Singh aka Tauji’s house. Ileana plays Amay’s wife, Malini Patnaik, a courageous woman who stands by her husband during tough times and accepts his challenges as her own. Her character is a tribute to all the wives of income tax officers who have always understood and supported their better halves. The pivotal character of Tauji, the most powerful man in Lucknow, is played by Saurabh Shukla.
Director Raj Kumar Gupta says, “Raid is a topical story that was due to be brought alive on the silver screen. It’s not just about an income tax raid on a corrupt individual but also corruption within us that exists on every level, and the undying spirit to fight it. It’s a tribute to all the unsung heroes. Usually movies are made on officers who wear a uniform. However, in this film we are celebrating officers who do not wear it, yet selflessly work towards the betterment of the country.”
Producer of the film Bhushan Kumar, who is also chairman and managing director of T-Series, says, “On hearing the narration, I connected to the story of Raid at once. The premise is interesting and the film’s treatment is realistic to the era it is set in. The audience today is not looking for runof-the mill stuff and Raid promises to offer them what they have not seen before. I am positive that they will like the film.”
Managing director at Panorama Studios and producer Abhishek Pathak says, “Raid is a thoughtprovoking film based on a subject that has never been explored before. We hope the audience appreciates the film encouraging us to deliver more content-driven cinema.”
