DISCUSSING MEDIA
The Annual Media Festival, organised by School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC), Apeejay Stya University (ASU), Gurugram, was attended by seasoned media professionals from different formats of media – print, audio-visual and digital.
One heard a diverse set of viewpoints on the challenges for the Indian media and the emerging role social media plays in polity and society. Panelists included Apeejay alumni Nidhi Razdan, anchor and executive editor at NDTV and Jaiveer Shergill, spokesperson, Indian National Congress. The keynote address was delivered by Rajdeep Sardesai, consulting editor at the India Today Group. Other prominent panelists and speakers were Raj Chengappa, editorial director, India Today Group, Amit Malviya, national head of
BJP Social Media & IT Cell, Ashutosh, spokesperson of Aam Aadmi Party, Ravish Kumar, senior executive Editor, NDTV, Pamela Philipose, public editor, The Wire, Seema Mustafa, editorin-chief, The Citizen, Rohini Singh, The Wire and Deepak Chaurasia, editor-in-chief, India News.
Sushma Paul Berlia, co-founder and chancellor, Apeejay Stya University, said, “Journalism is not only a passionate career but a responsibility. Media’s role is crucial in the overall health of the nation.” She added that ASU’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication is making a difference by shaping future ready professionals.
Nishant Berlia, member Management Board, Apeejay Stya & Svran Group, mentioned about the Svran Apeejay Journalism Foundation which supports quality journalism. He referred to SJMC as among top ranked journalism institutions in the country.
