Actor Shakti Anand, who has featured in fiction shows such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Saara Akaash, Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap and Gangaa on television, wants to give comedy a try. A fan of the genre, he says that it’s not an easy one. Although Shakti is willing to take up the challenge, he feels that the makers of comedy shows should also consider casting him.

“I think people can’t believe that I can do a comedy,” laughs Shakti. “But yes, I’d love to explore the genre, as it is one zone that I am yet to touch... Comedy is serious business. It’s not easy at all to make people laugh. Blessed are those who can do it.”

What makes a comedy show a hit among the audience? “Good writing and proper execution are two things that are a priority. Every time [stand-up comedian] Kapil Sharma appears on the screen, you see how everyone starts smiling thinking he will crack something really funny. And he does have the audience in splits most of the times,” says Shakti, who gives examples of other popular comedy shows such as Khichdi and Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai. “I am a fan of JD [Jamnadas Majethia; actorwriter] and Aatish [Kapadia; writer-actor]. I think they have been doing a wonderful job with their comedy shows. Hats off to them.”

Besides comedy, Shakti also wants to explore the web space and films, like most of his contemporaries. “Films and web series are always welcome. But I won’t leave TV for films, after all television is a different world altogether — it’s my bread and butter. I came all the way from Delhi to Mumbai to become an actor and TV gave me the platform, so I can never compromise on that. Also, web series are doing really well and the way one can experiment in that [digital] space is mind blowing,” the actor concludes.
