Nadiya hai hum behne do. Saailab hain behne do — this song by fusion-rock band Indian Ocean embodied the spirit of music aficionados perfectly at the Hindustan Times DLF Cyber Hub Firday Jam season 5, powered by Too Yumm and Nearbuy.com, last Friday. Come rain or storm, music played on as the magical evening unfolded with the band belting out hits such as Maa Rewa, Behney Do, Des Mera, Jaadu Maya, and Akhiyan Udeek Diyan with the crowd joining in encore.

“Thank you HT for calling us here. We’re coming back here after two years. Aaj hamare liye bhi special hain because this is our 1,100th show as a band,” said vocalist Rahul Ram, who enthralled the audience with new compositions.

The engaging jugalbandi between guitarist Nikhil Rao who used a guitar tuned as a Hindustani classical instrument and percussionist Tuheen Chakravorty on tabla was among the many highlights of the event. “The energy of the audience during the entire concert was amazing. People stayed, despite the storm, which was awesome,” Tuheen said.

Vivacious drummer Amit Kilam even broke his snare drum, while performing. “I like Cyber hub. Is jagah ki achi vibe hai. Delhi-NCR has been so kind to us from the ’90s. Dilli ki audience itni acchi hai that some of the biggest bands from the ’90s still continue to create their own music with their love and support. Tab sab log kehte the ki cover karo, nahi toh nikal diye jaaoge, but music lovers still supported us. Isliye hats off to this audience,” he told us.

The evening that saw umpteen selfies, head-banging music with rocking moves, concluded with Indian Ocean’s quintessential love ballad — Tu Kisi Rail Si — leaving the audience with much romantic nostalgia. And, this is only the second week of Friday Jam season 5, which promises to go a notch higher each week.
