I know what I am capable of: Elli AvrRam

Actor Elli AvrRam is busy shooting for the Tamil and Kannada remakes of the Hindi film Queen (2014) that starred Kangana Ranaut. In the remakes, titled Paris Paris and Butterfly, respectively, Elli would be portraying the character originally played by Lisa Haydon.

Asked if she ever gets bothered about playing a supporting role, or one that is not the central one in a film, Elli says, “Once I have accepted a certain role, I would not look at it in a way that ‘Oh I could have done the lead part better.’ That, I feel, is somewhat negative. I give my nod because either I’m excited about the role that I get to do, or the project on a whole.”

Elii says that she’d never want to “underestimate” herself. “I know what I am capable of. I can do a lot of roles and different kinds of characters. It’s just that you have to get that opportunity to give that kind of an audition where you can show that side of yours. I believe everyone should be allowed to audition for a role. At the end of the day, that’s the fun part of being an actor that you can be so versatile and you can play with your looks and become someone else,” adds the actor who has been a part of films such a Mickey Virus (2013), Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon (2015) and Naam Shabana (2017).

Going forward, Elli hopes that filmmakers would cast her in lead roles and not just consider her for supporting characters. “I’d definitely love to do that. There is a lot of talent [in me], which I think needs to get the right platform to showcase. There are many actors out there doing beautiful work and it’s just a matter of that one chance they get to shine. Personally, I wouldn’t want to play what I am in real life on the screen, too, unless the script is such that it wants you exactly how you are. I also want to experiment and explore,” she concludes.
