Digital platforms can’t lure television audience: Divyanka

- Rishabh Suri

Actor Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya, who has been winning hearts since she made her television debut with the 2006 show Banoo Main Teri Dulhann, is a big supporter of digital streaming platforms.

On whether this finite-show format has the ability to draw away a chunk of television audience, she says, “I wish they do! It’s good for us because we are actors. If we don’t work here [on TV] then we are working somewhere else. It will be amazing for us if more platforms open up, and hopefully online should.”

However, Divyanka is quick to add that streaming platforms still have a long way to go. “Unfortunately, till now, not a huge audience has been tapped. People from metros have access to technology, so they can watch content anywhere — travelling or while working. Even we actors watch such content in between our shots.”

Divyanka is of the opinion that there is still a big number in the rural areas that needs to be tapped. “There’s a huge age group from 40 to 80, who haven’t explored smartphones extensively. Most people might know how to use social media [Facebook and Twitter], but when it comes to downloading applications, it’s still tough for them. We still have to educate this audience, only then will they be attracted to the digital medium,” says Divyanka, who has been working in a daily soap for five years now.
