‘I’d love to dance with Shahid on screen’
Ishaan Khatter made his debut recently with Beyond The Clouds. The actor will next be seen in a Karan Johar production. After making an offbeat choice for his maiden venture, Ishaan aspires to play as many diverse roles as possible. He says, “My dream is that after having essayed varied characters, I want to imbibe those lessons into my personality. I am open to doing all kinds of roles.” Ishaan talks about the challenges of being a public figure, social media, co-star Janhvi and more.
What aspect of your profession do you find most challenging?
I think it’s the art and the craft aspect of it. As an actor, what you bring to the part (you’re playing), and how you crack the right moment. Also, to deliver what a director expects, and be consistent with your character. But that’s not the bit that I find difficult. It’s the media and the advent of social media, public perception and being correct and understanding the responsibilities of being a publicly known figure. Those are things I’ve to make a conscious effort to understand. Because as great it is to be spontaneous, sometimes you need to behave in a certain manner in a certain kind of situation, because you have a responsibility. That’s the bit I am learning. No matter how many challenges it brings, in the long run it’s all worth it.
Since you spoke of spontaneity, how would you describe yourself?
I think I am quite affable and friendly. I enjoy interacting with people and making them feel comfortable. But I don’t open up to everyone. I may seem an extrovert, but I am not.
How do you like to use the social media platforms and also deal with trolls?
I enjoy Instagram. There are negative remarks every now and then. But I know not to take it seriously. It shows that an individual is frustrated. I enjoy using Instagram, sharing pictures and videos. I also like making short clips and mixing them with music. I love photography. Recently, I began using my page to talk about my films.
How do you find costar Janhvi Kapoor as an actor?
Working with Janhvi is great. She has the best energy on set. She brings smiles on people’s faces. She is very dedicated and sincere.
