Doing up your room? Go tropical!
Trends come and go, but tropical prints have more or less been a mainstay in the apparel world for years now. Not like the home decor space has been devoid of its charm, but the presence is being felt more than ever now. Designers are using shades of green mixed with plenty of contrasting colours, like yellows and blues, to deck up spaces. So can you! We tell you how.
Home linen: The easiest way to bring the trend home is through your bed linen. A bedsheet with leafy prints or a mix of cushions can instantly lift the appearance of an otherwise dull room. “You can team these bedsheets with charcoal and navy wall colours. But if your room is small, avoid darker hues for the walls,” says interior designer Manjjulaa Kukreja.
Tropical accents: Plants — the indoor variants — artefacts in the print or wall hangings can be other simple additions. “Maintaining indoor plants can be difficult for some. Those looking to make the task easier can opt for artificial plants instead,” says interior designer Varija Bajaj. She suggests placing some plants near the dining table, and adding a fountain to the setting for an instant beautiful makeover. “A bucket hanging with planters is also an option for DIY lovers. Or, due to lack of space, one can decorate a vertical boundary wall in the porch area with plants,” adds Bajaj.
Colour combinations: Shades of green go best with dark hues of furniture, as then they stand out. One can also opt for wall paintings or wall art in leafy prints on it. “If you have a white wall, you can have an artist paint it with gigantic leaf prints, oversized insects or even exotic birds. The rest of the ambience has to be played low in this case,” advises Kukreja.
