Decoding the soon-to-be fuchchas

Here’s a fun take on the Delhi University aspirant. We try to decode some of the things that make them who they are

Admission season has begun, and with it comes a new breed of soon-to-be fuchchas. For days, you can spot them wandering the college halls, haunting the streets of nearby markets and chowing down all they can get during the little breaks they get while college hunting. While some things about these aspirants change every year, some other features remain constant. Here, we present to you the anatomy of a typical Delhi University aspirant, so you’d know one when you see one, and become their friends or guides.

Brain: This is a complex structure, somewhat like a supercomputer. Everything is compartmentalised, and every thought has a purpose. It calculates all probabilities of admission, it has all the questions they need to ask ready, and at the same time, it knows how to make a mark. Hoping for the best, yet prepared for the worst. Perfect hair: Going to campus for admissions isn’t really complete if people don’t take notice. Plus, if you don’t have a perfect selfie, what do you really have ? Shades: Perfect against the sun, these are accessories they just can’t live without. #onfleek Sunscreen: Being in the sun is inevitable, and one can’t compromise on skincare. Thus, sunscreen.

Mouth: All information is valuable, so they use it to chat up with all those who’re applying, get to know the college staff better and make new friends even before the session starts.

Fashionable clothing: What you wear defines you, and a great ensemble can, well, help you turn heads. It can be easy to blend in with the regular choices, but does one really want to blend in?

Tote bag: This isn’t the usual accessory; it is a world in itself. From important documents and stationery to food and water, it has all in it. Plus, not to forget, their clutch and their charger.

Diet: Bingeing on college food isn’t their cup of tea. They’d rather have a hearty breakfast at home and head out with some extra munchies in their bag. You’re more focused when you’re well fed. #cleaneating Smartphone: For all the info they need, and selfies, and checkins, and keeping in touch with the BFFs who are out college hunting, too! Who doesn’t like the world on their fingertips?

Canvas Shoes/Flats: Comfortable, chic and worth pairing with whatever outfit they choose. This is a go-to for long admission days.

Brain: You can compare this to a box with lots of flux (well, for most at least). Parts of it have admission information, a part of it is busy planning where to party once admissions are done. Caps/Shades: Saviours against the harsh sun, caps and/or shades also double as accessories that hide messy hair and tired eyes (from a late nighter). Earphones: These help boost the brain with their favourite tracks, and are great when it comes to avoiding conversation.

Mouth: This is seldom put to use, unless it’s for the information that you need. Or unless, you’re a great talker.

Loose and comfortable clothing: Perfect for the college hunt (and for hiding the half built muscles), these are perfect choices for college hunting. It isn’t first day of class, so why use the good clothes from your wardrobe?

Muscles: Now you’ll also find a lot of those who will miss no chance to flaunt that newly popped bicep, or a defined forearm, thanks to all the days of hardwork they have been putting in to look perfect for college. #beastmodeon

Backpack: Mostly empty, this is used to carry around all the documents, photographs and material needed for admissions. You’d often find it packed with stuff that really isn’t of any use. Diet: More like endless pits! It might already be stuffed with most of the offerings available on the street or the college canteens, but there is always space for some more.

Smartphone: This serves as an extension of the body. While some use it for all the useful information they need for admissions and tickr updates, most use it to build some social media cred (uploading stories, tweeting, all the cool stuff you know!)

Sneakers/Sports Shoes/ Chappals: They know they’re going to be walking a lot (after all, that’s the best way to check out the campus), so they come prepared. Sneakers or sports shoes are perfect for the day long run, and chappals are always a last minute choice when they’re in a hurry. Effortless fashion for the win!
