Ali hopes his Pakistani film releases in India
Pakistani singer-actor Ali Zafar made a promising acting debut in India with the Bollywood film Tere Bin Laden (2010) and followed it up with films such as Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (2011), London, Paris, New York(2012), Total Siyapaa (2014) and Dear Zindagi (2016). Now, the actor hopes that his first film in Pakistan, Teefa In Trouble, crosses boundaries and makes a mark in other countries, too.
Is India, with whom Pakistan shares a bittersweet relationship, part of the list? “Hopefully. It is on the cards. If everything goes well, then yes,” says Ali, who has also written, produced and sung songs for this romantic action comedy.
“We have made an effort, given our best. It’s all about giving respect and getting respect back. It is a film; it is entertainment. I hope that it gets screened over there [in India] and makes a mark and more stuff like this should happen. My job is to try. I don’t think about the negative side at all,” he adds.
Only a handful of Pakistani films such as Khuda Kay Liye (2007) and singing superstar Atif Aslam-starrer Bol (2011) got to enter the Indian movie market.
Asked if Ali would like that to change and he says, “As an artist, I feel that our work should be heard and viewed by as many people as possible in the world. I think we want that there should be peace... peace, having a cordial relationship and love are what we all want to prevail.”
