The other Ravana
Green Gold Animation, which created India’s most beloved animated character ‘Chhota Bheem’, is gearing up for the release of its mythological animated film, titled Hanuman Vs Mahiravana.
The 3D stereoscopic extravaganza tells a tale from the timeless Indian epic, Ramayana. The plot is built around an untold story from the penultimate day of the great war of Lanka, fought between the forces of Ram and Ravana.
Rajiv Chilaka, founder and CEO of the Hyderabadbased Green Gold Animation, says, “The film is a visual delight and will caters to all age groups. It has the right blend of fun, entertainment, emotions and action. The new generation today enjoys superhero films and our intention is to inspire them with this film and also make them proud of our culture and literature while keeping it entertaining.”
Hanuman Vs Mahiravana showcases the race against time for Hanuman to save Ram and Laxman from the clutches of Mahiravana, the king of the underworld, an evil sorcerer and the brother of Ravana, king of Lanka.
Besides the technical, creative and commercial challenges of making such an action-filled film, envisioning and creating the 3D depth for the film was a major challenge.
Since the entire story takes place in a dark world, in order to get the nuances and technicalities of the VFX correctly, VFX artists from five different countries — Canada, Malaysia, US, Japan, and India collaborated to convert the film to both 2D and stereoscopic 3D.
Produced by Green Gold Animation and directed by Dr Ezhil Vendan, Hanuman Vs Mahiravana is set to release in 3D and 2D formats in Hindi and Tamil across India on July 6.
