Sonali Bendre has high-grade cancer
Earlier this month, Sonali Bendre Behl was replaced by Huma Qureshi as the judge of a talent hunt show, due to “unforeseen personal circumstances”. At that time, little did one know that the actor was suffering from “high-grade cancer”.
In a media statement, Bendre says: “Sometimes, when you least expect it, life throws you a curveball. I have recently been diagnosed with a high grade cancer that has metastised, which we frankly did not see coming. A niggling pain led to some tests, which led to this unexpected diagnosis.” We couldn’t reach out to her family or friends, but sources inform that Sonali is suffering from uterus cancer.
Adding that her family and close friends “have rallied around” to provide the “best support system that anyone can ask for”, Sonali says there is no better way to tackle this, than to take swift and immediate action. “I am very blessed and thankful for each of [family and friends] them. As advised by my doctors, I am currently undergoing a course of treatment in New York. We remain optimistic and I am determined to fight every step of the way,” she says.
Last seen on the big screen alongside Akshay Kumar in Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara! (2013), Sonali says that she is “taking this battle head on”. It’s believed that her husband, filmmaker Goldie Behl, and other family members are constantly by her side. Bollywood names also tweeted their support.
Akshay met her a couple of days back in New York after hearing of her illness, and spoke to us, sending his prayers.
