Homeopathy: The answer to your asthma woes
Asthma is considered one of the most common chronic lung diseases worldwide. It is a serious disease caused by the swelling (inflammation) of the airways in the lungs. According to the World Health Organization, there are about 15–20 million people affected with asthma in India, and the condition is prevalent in about 10–15% of children between the ages of 5 and 11 years. Not many people are aware that asthma occurs as a result of improper and inefficient management of the initial stages of respiratory allergies. Children with an inherited tendency towards respiratory allergies tend to suffer from ailments like frequent attacks of cough and cold from a very young age.
As the disease sits deeper in the body, not only the cough becomes severe and chronic, but is also associated with difficulty in breathing, tiredness, loss of energy, and wheezing. Other symptoms that may also be present are tightness in chest and neck, anxiety, easy exhaustion, mouth breathing, poor appetite. Dr SPS Bakshi, CMD, Bakson Group, says, “If the right treatment is provided in the initial stages of the appearance of symptoms, then the progression of the problem to asthma can be prevented in children as well as adults. Homoeopathy being a safe, gentle, harmless and mild mode of treatment, is effective for long-term use in asthmatic patients, as it does not have any side effects.”
Dr Bakshi, who has an experience of about 45 years in Homoeopathy, is of the view that the prognosis of the patients of asthma depends on family history. Patients with a family lineage of respiratory allergy on both the maternal and the paternal sides, are more prone to developing asthma, and have to take treatment for a longer duration as compared to those who have a positive history only on one side of the family.
