ANSHUMAN APPLIES THE DISCIPLINE HE LEARNED IN HIS CRICKET DAYS TO ACTING

Actor Anshuman Jha, who was recently seen in the film, Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain, alongside Sanjay Mishra, is conscious and selective when it comes to taking up work.

He has done only eleven films in his eight-year career so far, which started with Love, Sex Aur Dhokha (2010).

On being so choosy, Anshuman says, “Beggars can’t be choosers, but as an actor, I am a beggar who chooses. That’s the way it is. There should be hard work and sincerity. I don’t drink or smoke, I have never enjoyed it. Similarly, when it comes to my [meticulousness towards] work … it even irritates people sometimes.”

Asked if it has got anything to do with trying to be perfect, he says, “There’s no such thing as perfection. I used to play cricket for Delhi under16, it comes from there. [Former cricketer] Bishan Singh Bedi used to be our coach. If he ever thought that we were weak in something, he would make us do it again and again. And if we still made the error, he would make us hold our kit and run the ground. So we became aware, marshaled to a point where we wouldn’t do it.”

“That discipline,” adds Anshuman, “has somewhere trickled into my ethics. Batting and acting are very similar.”
