Kanica reveals how she got into writing

- Rishabh Suri

Actor Kanica Maheshwari has impressed people with her acting abilities in shows such as Diya Aur Baati Hum, but it is her writing debut that has left many surprised, especially her friends.

Her short film, Forever Whim, which has already started getting nominations at many film festivals, narrates an emotional story of a mother and daughter, with the former being diagnosed with cancer. Not able to see her suffer, the daughter wants her to die.

On how she came up with the idea, Kanica reveals, “My director and I were discussing cancer, and I told him about one of my best friends, whose son suffered from it. We suddenly said that we could work on a similar motherdaughter relationship. I agreed to write it. I wrote three scenes, and the rest was montages. People, who have seen the film, have come up to me and said that they couldn’t connect with any 30-minute episodes on TV, but this 30minute film made them cry.”

From where did this interest in writing stem from, she says, “It’s been four or five years that I have been writing this, I was so busy with my shows, along with Nach Baliye in 2013. I never took my passion for writing seriously, but from the day I started getting time for myself, I wanted to branch out in some different direction.”
