PROVIDING helmetS FOR RIDeRS’ SAFetY
In India, two-wheeler riders form the majority of the fatalities of road accidents. According to many studies, wearing a helmet can save the lives of riders. In spite of this, many riders ignore even the most basic safety practices.
To address the problem, Suzuki Motorcycle India (SMIPL) recently rolled out the #HelmentForLife initiative. This comes after the success of Suzuki’s #CaughtWithoutHelmet initiative, which was broadcast through the digital media. The company’s initiative #HelmetForLife will be hitting the streets across 12 different Indian cities to drive home the message of safety on road.
The #HelmetForLife initiative was kicked off by Satoshi Uchida, Managing Director, SMIPL; and Sajeev Rajasekharan, Executive Vice-President, SMIPL; in the presence of Garima Bhatnagar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) at the commissioner’s office in Delhi.
Suzuki also plans to give away Suzuki Gixxer motorbikes to police departments in all the 12 cities that they will be covering in this phase of #HelmetForLife campaign. The cities include Gurugram, New Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune, Surat, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Calicut, and Kolkata.
Moreover, Suzuki Motorcycles will also be sending teams to these cities to flag down riders without helmets, and the offenders will be educated about the importance of wearing a helmet. If they don’t have a helmet, the brand will give them a free full-face helmet, to encourage them to follow this basic safety norm.
Rajasekharan said, “The Helmet For Life initiative is a very important step towards triggering a behavioural change among two-wheeler riders. We are grateful to the Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) and Delhi Police for joining us in this endeavour. With the Gixxer motorcycles that carry the message of #HelmetForLife as well as on-ground helmetdistribution initiatives, we hope to take the message of safe-riding to maximum number of people in other cities as well.”
The #HelmetForLife campaign went live in Delhi on July 5, 2018, and is being managed by Haymarket SAC Publishing (India) Pvt Ltd in all the cities.
