‘ANURAG WAS A MENTOR, NOW A FRIEND’
Actor Vicky Kaushal says that the relationship he shares with filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is special
Actor Vicky Kaushal’s association with filmmaker Anurag Kashyap goes back a long way. Vicky shares that Anurag has literally seen him grow, given that his father, action director Sham Kaushal, has collaborated with the director on films such as Black Friday (2007) and Gulaal (2009). So, when Vicky started working with Anurag, the latter was more like a mentor to the Masaan (2015) actor.
“The relationship I share with [Anurag] is very special. In fact, it has transitioned from being a mentor to a friend now. Along with my father, he was my window into the world of cinema, Bollywood… My experience of working with him as an assistant director in Gangs of Wasseypur (2012) helped me learn so many things about cinema. From the time I started assisting him to now, when he is directing me again for Manmarziyaan, our friendship has only grown,” says Vicky, who had worked with Anurag in other films such as Bombay Velvet (2015) and Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016).
Talking more about their friendship, the actor shares that Anurag used to come to his house and he’d, at times, listen to the interesting conversation between his dad and the filmmaker. “He has literally seen me grow from a boy to a man. So, the bond we share is really special. He’s always there to guide me, and of course he’s also the one who gives me a reality check, too. I can always turn to him for an honest feedback,” adds Vicky.
The two clearly share a great camaraderie and the actor signs off by saying, “Every time I work with him, I end up learning something new.
Also, we have this extreme comfort level.”
