Ranbir Kapoor has been garnering praise for his portrayal of Sanjay Dutt in Sanju, a film based on Dutt’s life. When we asked Ranbir’s father, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor if he would someday like to have a biopic made on his life, the instant response was, “I don’t think that’s a good idea ... my life is zero and boring! Nobody should attempt at making a film on my life.”

However, the actor is quick to add that he is not averse to the idea of being a part of a biopic made on someone else’s life, where he gets to portray the lead role. He reveals, “Let me tell you that I have been approached for a biopic. And it’s very interesting that somebody wants me to agree at this stage [of my career] to do it. They want to make a biopic on Khushwant Singh with me [portraying Singh].”

Singh, who died in 2014, was a renowned author and columnist. He was also a lawyer, diplomat and a member of parliament. But he is best remembered for his literary works, most popular among them perhaps is his book, Train to Pakistan, which was also made into a film in 1998.

Kapoor adds that he was quite intrigued with the very idea of a biopic being made on the author’s life. “When I heard about it, I said it sounds good because a lot of people do not know [about] his earlier life. He had a very daring and colourful life in his younger days. But, they would have to take somebody else to portray his younger version. I can play the ‘fat’ Khushwant Singh, maybe with a little more of padding on my body (laughs),” says Kapoor.

So is the film happening anytime soon? “It was about six months back when somebody asked me about this. And I even said yes to it. I don’t know what is happening after that,” he says.
