Astory of an ordinary father hoping for extraordinary things for his children is one emotion most can relate to, and Fanney Khan promises to strike a chord. Based on the Belgian film, Everybody’s Famous! (2000), the movie revolves around a once celebrated singer trying to bring his daughter to fame and the difficulties he faces along the way. “All over the world, some classic films have been remade. Seven Samurai (1954) was made into The Magnificent Seven (1960) and some parts of it was used in Sholay (1975). I happened to see the film (Everybody’s Famous!) almost 10 years ago and it resonated with me. It was a film that everybody needed to see and more so in India, where woman empowerment is such a pertinent issue,” says producer Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. “And because music plays such a pivotal role in the film, Bhushanji (Bhushan Kumar) was obviously the first person I reached out to,” he adds.

Bhushan Kumar, chairman and managing director of T-Series admits that this film did strike a special chord with him. “When Rakeyshji first narrated the concept to me, I was immediately sold. The film is very close to me for two reasons — music being its primary focus and also because it’s a story about unfulfilled dreams which the parents are trying to realise through their children. Apart from music, my father always wanted to make movies and that’s what I’m doing today!” explains Kumar.

The film also serves as Mehra’s long time associate, Atul Manjrekar’s directorial debut and introduces actor Pihu Sand. With a stellar cast including Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Rajkummar Rao, the movie is all set to win hearts as it is scheduled to release on August 3.
