Clearly, she has had a great start in Bollywood with Dhadak. And now, as Janhvi Kapoor readies to take her film career ahead, it would be interesting to know if she is planning on working with her father, producer Boney Kapoor. “One thing I have realised about papa is that he’s an extremely generous man, besides being a really passionate and a creative producer, who will go out of his way to consummate the vision of his actors and directors. As an actor, if I am lucky enough, I would love to experience that,” she says.

Interestingly, the late Sridevi’s daughter “first wants to prove herself a little bit”. “It shouldn’t be as if I am trying to force myself down audiences’ throat. Mujhe lagta hai ki they should first accept me and then if I am worthy enough of that kind of opportunity [to work with her father], then of course, I would love to [team up with him],” says the young actor, adding that unlike her father, she “can never be a producer”. She says: “I think it’s a thankless job (laughs) as all the credit goes to everyone else except him/her.”

But doesn’t the producer make money? “Sometimes, even that doesn’t happen (smiles). Maybe, it depends if you are a smart producer so I don’t know,” says Janhvi, while admitting that she “really enjoys writing” as well. “But I don’t think I can ever write a full film. Pehle acting toh kar lein phir baaki cheezein dekhtein hain,” she says.

Talking of acting, and teaming up with Ishaan Khatter in her debut film, Janhvi says, “He is the only person I have worked with until now, and I think it was easy to team up with him because we get along really well. Also, as an actor, I am in awe of him and the way he approaches his scenes. He has great energy [as an actor], and

it is probably since he is new too. But what helped me was the fact that he is [a] more experienced [actor] than me.”

The 21-year-old, however, admits that she wasn’t really anxious about facing the camera. “My first shot was a very small one. I just had two dialogues. I wasn’t nervous as we had done a lot of readings prior to the shoot. I knew what exactly we had to do, so more than being nervous, I was excited that finally, the time has come [for me to face the camera],” she says.
