WHY SMITA BANSAL KEPT PUTTING OFF NEGATIVE ROLES UNTIL NOW

-

Actor Smita Bansal, who will be seen in a negative role in a supernatural fantasy TV show, says that the reason she didn’t do such roles in the initial stage of her career was because of her family. She says her family and children do have a say in her work-related decisions, to some degree.

“It’s not like I mind taking up negative roles, but initially, yes, when I started my career, I made a choice that I didn’t want to do negative roles... I came from a family that didn’t want me to take up acting. So, if I played a negative role, how would the audience have perceived and connected with the character?” says Smita.

The Balika Vadhu actor didn’t want the traits of a character with negative shades to filter into people’s perception of her real self, and have a negative impact on her family. “Back then, the audience took characters a lot more seriously. Now, people understand that you are just playing a character, and it’s not you,” explains Smita. “It’s true that you do get typecast in the industry for the kind of roles you take up. So, I’ve always done the ‘goody’ characters, and whenever there is a positive role, people think of me,” she adds.

The actor is excited about the reboot of the hit TV show Kasautii Zindagii Kay, where she did a cameo, which she would love to repeat. “I didn’t do a full-fledged role in it. I would love to be a part of [the reboot],” she says.
