Why use chemicals? Try these foods for white teeth
If there is one thing that can boost your self-confidence,it is a set of pearly whites. However, most of us depend on the chemist rather than our kitchen for getting white teeth. We got in touch with dental experts Dr Smriti Bouri and Dr Shashank Arora, who say that the kind of food you eat plays an integral part in maintaining your oral health and retaining the whiteness of the teeth.
Here’s a list of foods that are good for oral hygiene and help remove stains from teeth over a period of time. Pineapples: Pineapples contain bromelain, an enzyme that disintegrates the protein on the surface of the enamel, removes stains, and helps fight discolouration. Once the protein on the surface is broken down, it’s easier for your saliva to naturally remove the stains. Strawberries: Strawberries contain malic acid, which, in right amount, helps to dissolve stains on the surface of teeth. You can also mash strawberries together and rub them on your teeth as a paste.
Cauliflower: Surprised as to how can cauliflower help whiten teeth? Well, if you consume it raw, then it certainly can. Chewing them requires time, and the longer you chew, the more saliva your mouth produces, which helps to remove stains. Also, the coarse texture of veggies such as cauliflowers can also help in stain removal. Cheese: Cheese is an excellent source of lactic acid and calcium, which are essential for maintaining white teeth and oral hygiene. Calcium also strengthens the enamel.
Onions: They may cause bad breath, but they also help keep your teeth clean. Onions contain sulphur that prevents the formation of plaque. However, the trick is eat to them raw, not sautéed or fried.
