OMUNG PROUD OF SONALI’S COURAGE AND POSITIVITY
The filmmaker opens up about his kids reality show cojudge Sonali Bendre’s sudden cancer shock
Like most people in Bollywood, filmmaker Omung Kumar, too, was in for a shock recently, when actor Sonali Bendre revealed that she has high grade cancer. Omung, who judges a kids talent show on TV with Sonali, says that all he knew earlier was that she was going for a second opinion to the doctor for something.
The filmmaker is certain that it all must have happened very suddenly. “She (Sonali) didn’t know. We had already shot a few episodes. Had she known, she wouldn’t have taken up the show,” he says.
Sonali revealed her illness through an Instagram post on July 4, which she addressed to her readers. Omung adds, “While we were about to shoot for an episode and she didn’t come, we got to know that she has gone for a second opinion. And, second opinion is very scary. We were wondering what is it for and hoping that everything was okay and suddenly I came to know. That was a shock for all of us. We didn’t know how to react to this. I am not directly in touch with her because I know she needs space and peace. But I’m in touch with her family.”
Sonali has ever since been updating everyone through her positive and encouraging posts on social media. She is currently undergoing a course of treatment in New York.
Omung is proud of the actor’s courage but says it is painful to imagine what she must be going through. “It’s positive but heart wrenching. I kept thinking how is she being able to write those posts, how brave she must be to tell the world about what she is going through and still be a positive about it. She is a fighter and a daredevil and it certainly shows,” says the filmmaker, who wants to be there for Sonali in her tough time.
“Somewhere you want to be with her and fight with her. But I know that you can’t do that and her family is there with her for that,” he signs off, praying for a speedy recovery for Sonali.
