The famous Geronimo Stilton musical — based on Italian author of children’s fiction Elisabetta Dami’s books — is making its India debut in Delhi. The Broadway-style theatrical will tell the story of reporter and adventurer hero Geronimo Stilton and his exploits around various magical kingdoms. The two-act production will have 3D effects, projections, and a VFX overlay.

“It took us about 4-5 months to put the show together. We spent a considerable time thinking about how things could be done, and only then did we start building the concepts for the set, the way the characters would be, how these things would interact on stage, and also the graphics. We also borrowed some of the graphics from the books — something that would give you a sense of what is in the book is also on stage,” shares Justin Taudien, technical director and production manager of the show. “We built the set pieces, like the giant’s boot from the book, just as one would imagine it in real life, and it was about ten Geronimos high, so people see it as they have when reading about Geronimo’s adventures. We’ve done layered projections throughout the story, too, so that it gives a 3D element that would play with your eyes as you watch the production.”

The humour, and the journey of every character — their diversity and detail will make it enjoyable for viewers of all ages. The production will have 8 people on stage, 7 crew persons, and 6 VFX characters, apart from the numerous hands working behind the scenes to bring this to life.

Explaining a bit about the Geronimo Stilton story, Stuart Marshall, resident director, choreographer, and stage manager, says, “It is a story of friendship, and how a common man can overcome his weaknesses... that you do not need superpowers to be a superhero.”

Tom Keeling, who plays Geronimo in the production, adds, “It is exciting to bring this to India, and we’re hoping we get a warm response from the audience. We hope children enjoy the performance, and also learn from it. Children are the best audience because you do not need to draw anything out of them; whatever they feel, it shows.”
