OLD AND FAMOUS JALEBI WALA
Aptly named Old and Famous, this place has been serving one of the best jalebis in town since 1884. This century-old nook starts getting crowded even before its shutters get opened, and the rush peaks till the wee hours of the night. The fourthgeneration owner Abhishek Jain, recalls, “My great grandfather Nem Chand Jain, a native of Agra village, got married and received a dowry of ₹2. With that money, he travelled to Delhi and started this business. Initially, he used to sit on the pavement. Gradually, he bought this space.” Abhishek claims that many ex-PMs, politicians, actors such as Raj Kapoor, and even Hollywood actor Kal Penn have visited the place. When Nem Chand Jain was on his death bed, Abhishek says that his last words were “use the finest ingredients no matter how expensive they get so that the authentic taste is retained”. He says that they follow the late founder’s advice diligently and that’s probably why they are still one of the reigning spots for jalebis in Delhi.
