There’s no such thing as vulgarity: Girish Kulkarni

Actor Girish Kulkarni, who was recently seen in a web series playing the role of a corrupt minister, is all praise for the freedom that the digital space offers. However, he admits that when even this medium is questioned about depicting uncensored reality, he gets upset.

“There is a debate in your head; you are free to imagine whatever [you want]... But we are hypocritical in terms of consuming [watching] things. We have dealt with the realities of life and human nature. We allow and use such language (in real life, too), we see nudity all around...[So], if somebody shows that on the screen, that too, with a very humble notion of making art, what’s the problem?” asks Girish, who has also been a part of films such as Dangal (2016) and Fanney Khan.

Kulkarni hopes that people see the meaning behind bold scenes. He shares, “There’s no [such thing as] vulgarity. Whatever scenes are bold, also make sense, if you go deep into it. It’s an experience of the world [around you], which you are getting to watch, which is definitely shocking.” He adds, “To make me look like my character... it’s essential to make it seem like real, and get that experience out.”
