My sister is taking time to say yes to a film: Kriti Sanon

Being the elder sister, Bollywood actor Kriti Sanon doesn’t mind when her beloved younger sister, Nupur Sanon, calls her “mummy” just to tease her. “It’s okay when sometimes Nupur calls me ‘chhoti mummy’. There’s a part of me that’s very protective and acts like a mother to her, [when I’m] in Mumbai,” says Kriti, adding that though they are sisters, they’re more like buddies.

“We confide in each other; whenever I want to talk about anything, she’s there. We have the same group [of friends] in Mumbai. But at the same time, I try and make sure that she’s doing fine. I check on her late nights, whether she’s eating on time, resting well, etc. I can’t be chilled out about it. She has more friends than I do. I’ve been in this city for fivesix years and she has been here for just a year-and-a-half and she has like some 50 friends. And I don’t think I can count five on my finger,” says the Delhi girl, Kriti, with a laugh.

Over the past couple of months, rumours have been abuzz about Nupur being keen on having a career in acting. Kriti shares that it’s a passion that her sister has discovered lately. “Initially, I was modelling and I realised that I’d like to become an actor. She, too, realised that she really likes acting and enjoys it a lot. Nupur is yet to sign a film. She’s taking her time and weighing all her opportunities before saying yes to something. And I think this is the right way to go. Your first project is very important,” says Kriti, sounding like the wise elder sister even during our conversation. We mention this, and she laughs again.

So, what are the career tips that she has given to Nupur? “There’s just one thing that I told her, and that was from my experience. When I came to Mumbai to work in films, there were times when I got opportunities that kind of lured me and made me think whether I should grab it or not. Such times are not easy to deal with. One needs to have a lot of patience,” says Kriti. “I’ve told Nupur, ‘make sure that whatever you step into is good enough for your debut’. The first film sets the graph and ground for an actor. Being very sure of what you take up is the most important and the hardest part. Letting go of offers is also very difficult,” adds the actor, who’ll be seen next in a bunch of Bollywood films: Housefull 4, Luka Chuppi, Arjun Patiala, Panipat and Kalank.

Nupur and I confide in each other; whenever I want to talk about anything, she’s there. We have the same group [of friends] in Mumbai. But at the same time, I try and make sure that she’s doing fine.
