Side stripes: BTown’s new fashion fad
What’s seen on fashion runways is what’s in the celebrity closets. And if you are a sucker for celebrity fashion, you know that what’s in the celeb closet will soon make it to everyone’s closet. Looks like this time, it will be the side stripes that will be found everywhere. What was until now, considered fit only for track pants or athleisure wear, is now seen on the sides of trousers, denims and dresses. Actors such as Shahid Kapoor, Diana Penty and Nora Fatehi have been sporting it, and fashion experts are giving this “sporty vibe” a big thumbs up.
“The side stripe gives a sporty vibe to the look and at the same time, looks perfect for casual dressing. They were all over the global ramp last season, and we are now seeing them on our Bollywood fashionistas,” says designer Jenjum Gadi.
Designer Dhruv Vaish says the trend is very ’70s. “With the return of everything
’70s, we shouldn’t be surprised seeing this, since designers are shifting their attention to that era.”
This print helps create a taller, leaner look. “Sidestriped trousers make your legs look longer. These vertical stripes also give an illusion of one being leaner,” says stylist Sahil Gulati.
The trend is also versatile. “You have a wide range of choices when it comes to sidestripes. And the best part is that you can wear them for a formal occasion with a blazer or team it with a round neck tee for a sporty look,” adds Gulati.
