I can’t play a regular person getting up from bed with mascara and hair done well. That does not look real, unless I play a queen. SUPRIYA PILGAONKAR ACTOR

Actor Supriya Pilgaonkar feels satisfied after having portrayed a light-hearted character in her upcoming film, Batti Gul Meter Chalu. The actor, who plays Shraddha Kapoor’s mother in the movie, says that such (light) roles are a relief not only for the audience but the actor as well.

“She (the character) is a cute mother and there are a couple of lighter scenes in the film that will make you laugh. What you have seen in the trailer is nothing; there’s much more in the film. She is a woman from the hills, so her mannerisms, her way of talking are as per that,” the actor says about her role.

Supriya adds that she had a gala time working on the film, and that the younger lot, actors Shradhha, Shahid [Kapoor], and Divyendu [Sharma] are a treat to work with.

While Batti Gul Meter Chalu highlights the menace of high electricity bills, her debut web series revolves around issues faced by residents of housing societies. It seems that the actor is consciously choosing socially relevant subjects. Her last film, Hichki, dealt with a girl with Tourette syndrome.

“It’s time we throw light on such issues and reach out to as many people as possible. For me showing what happens in reality in important. That does not mean I won’t do a fairy tale, but the story needs to be good. I can’t play a regular person getting up from bed with mascara and hair done well. That does not look real, unless I play a queen or something,” says the actor, who is keen on doing more web series.

“Web series take less time to finish, explore interesting subjects, and also reach out to overseas audience,” Supriya adds, who has a short film and a film starring Jimmy Sheirgill and Mahie Gill on her plate next.
