The Delhi University (DU) went to vote yesterday, and the result of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) will be announced today. While everyone is waiting for the result (the DUSU election is considered as a mood-gauger of who the youth support at the national level), here’s how it was on field.

For starters, it was a triangular fight as RSS-backed ABVP, Congress-backed NSUI, and alliance of AISA with AAP-backed CYSS went to polls. There were some independent candidates, too.

However, the high-octane atmosphere of the past years was missing.

The number of cases of hooliganism was much smaller this time. We closed the inner areas of the varsity so that the voters could cast their vote fearlessly, without being intimidated. There was rapid vehicle checking. The voting process went smoothly. NUPUR PRASAD DCP

When I went to vote I was governed by the thought that you cannot threaten or bribe people to vote for you, and that is why my friends and I voted for who we did... There is a lot of casteism and groupism during DU elections but one has to choose what is right.

I voted for NSUI for one post and ABVP for the other post. I did that because I wanted to strike a balance... I don’t want just one party in power or making the DUSU panel. Also, it’s not so much about a party as it is about the right candidate for me.
