After making her debut with the rousing sports drama Chak De! India (2007), actor Chitrashi Rawat went on to get noticed in the Madhur Bhandarkar film Fashion (2008). However, things didn’t quite go as planned for the 28-year-old. Chitrashi refers to the period as the lowest point in her life.

“I was literally thrown into this world. I was a sportsperson, but then I got cast as an actor in Chak De! Then everybody liked my performance, and then I got Fashion, which again was loved by everyone. That was the most unbelievable period of my life,” says Chitrashi, adding, “So, when things after Fashion, didn’t go my way, I was caught a bit unawares. I didn’t expect that to happen. Yes, now I realise that every actor has their ups and downs, but that time I was fairly new. I wasn’t depressed, but yes, that was one of the lowest points in my life.”

But that is in the past — the actor is excited about being a part of the Marathi film Monsoon Football, where she stars alongside her Chak De! India co-stars Sagarika Ghatge and Vidya Malwade.

“I signed the film only because Sagarika and Vidya were also a part of it,” she laughs. “Jokes apart, it was a really great script. I won’t be playing football in the film, sadly, but I will be playing the role of an NGO worker who pushes the women to play the sport,” she says.

Chitrashi, who has played hockey for Uttarakhand in the past, says is eager to play a sportsperson on screen again. She wanted to play football in the film, too, but director Milind Ukey had to turn down her request. “I was told that I don’t look like the part. But that’s okay. I have told him that he can take me in the video montages of the film, where I can kick the ball,” she says, laughing. “But I wouldn’t mind playing a sportswoman again. To see so many women get inspired after Chak De! was an unbelievable feeling, and I would want to be part of such projects in the future,” she signs off.

Now, I realise that every actor has their ups and downs, but that time I was fairly new. I wasn’t depressed, but yes, that was one of the lowest points in my life.
