Actor Richa Chadha’s characters of Dolly (Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, 2008) and Bholi Punjaban (Fukrey, 2013) are etched in the memory of her fans. But she doesn’t intend to define her films according to roles she wants. She would rather approach her films without any preconceived notions.

“I am already doing the characters I love and adore. I am blessed that people trust me with those parts and I think in future also things will only get better. I don’t have a wish list as such. I find that restrictive because if you do that, you have a version of yourself in your mind and it will not allow you to give more to the character. I don’t think like that,” says Richa.

The actor also strongly believes in adding value to her work. “In my first film I played the character of Dolly. The lines were written normally, I made it into someone who had trouble speaking in English. It’s not just what is offered to you, but also what you make of it,” she says.

The actor’s recent film Love Sonia received rave reviews from critics. Before releasing in India, the movie travelled to various platforms worldwide to a good response. It’s not the first time Richa’s work received global acclaim. Her 2015 movie Masaan got a similar response. “While certain films do well in international festivals, they don’t always work well on the home turf. I think now that is changing. Films which are acclaimed internationally are making people rush to theatres even in India. Not just for Indian films but other films as well. It’s only going to get better,” says the actor.
