Time and again, many styles from the eras gone by make comebacks. And, designers come out with their own versions and interpretations of different fashion elements of the past. One such recent trend is leading to makeover of skirts.
While some are inspired by obie (traditional Japanese dress’ sash), some are simply outcomes of designers’ imaginative minds.
At an international platform, actor Priyanka Chopra donned a skirt with suspended cut-outs by designer Dion Lee. And, soon after, several actors including Mrunal Thakur and Shraddha Kapoor were seen flaunting skirts and dresses with obieinspired ruffle detailing.
These skirts are funky, cool and add an element of quirkiness to the overall look, say fashionistas. “I love these skirts, especially the one Priyanka wore. We will be seeing this more often now. It’s a part of my next collection as well. It’s a great way to recycle and upcycle. These are not necessarily machine-made and strictly cut silhouettes. Plus, they have a deeper meaning,” says designer Anupamaa Dayal.
However, many designers feel it’s a fad and not here to stay. “The style has made a comeback from the ’80s. However I don’t think they are here to stay for long, because the way designers have been using it across the international runways is more of a detail than a full-blown trend,” says designer Anand Bhushan.
Stylist Vikram Seth warns that these skirts are tricky to carry. “They are good as an autumn trend. However, not everyone can carry them. They can look shabby if not carried properly,” he adds.
DESIGNERS ARE DIVIDED ON THE POPULARITY OF SUCH SKIRTS. WHILE ONE SAYS THEY WILL BE SEEN MORE OFTEN, ANOTHER SAYS IT’S ONLY A DETAIL AND NOT A FULLBLOWN TREND
