Actor Anushka Sharma’s dream of opening an animal shelter is likely to come true next year; she says the ‘work is in progress’
The year 2019 could be a special year for Anushka Sharma, and we aren’t just referring to her onscreen exploits. Earlier this year, on her birthday (May 1), the actor opened up about her long-standing dream to open an animal shelter. Now, if all goes well, Anushka’s dream will come true next year.
“Yes, hopefully, next year we will able to do (open the shelter) it. The work is in progress at top speed. Since it’s a big land, it has to be cultivated and all. We are putting our heart and soul into it,” says Anushka, who has wanted to a build a shelter for old and injured animals “for almost a decade now.”
Apparently, the said shelter is being built on more than six acres of land on the outskirts of Mumbai. “The construction started on her birthday. Anushka always wanted to build a special home for all animals in need — ageing pets, injured, stranded creatures as well as strays,” says an insider close to her. It is believed that she did extensive research for the shelter for over three years, including personally visiting similar centres across India. The idea for an animal shelter came to Anushka because she “was deeply moved by something His Holiness, The Dalai Lama said and his words have stayed with me since then.” She said around her birthday: “His Holiness had said, ‘Life is as dear to a mute creature as it is to a man. Just as one wants happiness and fears pain, just as one wants to live and not die, so do other creatures.’”
Workwise, after the success of Sui Dhaaga — Made In India, Anushka is yet to announce her next. “Talking about my production house, we are doing an interesting web show that will go on floors in January. I won’t be acting in it. We have been writing it for the past three years. So, I will be busy with that,” says the actor, adding that she will soon start promotions of her next release, Zero.
