Saqib’s aim is to be remembered, not to hit the 200-cr mark

Actor Saqib Saleem’s last film Race 3 fared very well at the box office, but was panned by critics. However, the actor hasn’t let that affect his motivation; instead, he’s all geared up to prove himself further to viewers.

“There are certain kinds of expectations that people have from me and I don’t want to disappoint them,” says Saqib, whose debut film was Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge (2011). “Be it fewer people, but whoever expects things from me, I won’t disappoint them.”

While Race 3 was a typical big-budget multi-starrer, Saqib’s work so far has spanned a range of genres, and he isn’t particularly concerned about the categories. “I don’t necessarily have to do a [bigbudget] Race 3. I might want to do a Dum Laga Ke Haisha or NH10, something that can push the envelope. May be it won’t do 200 crore [business] but it will be remembered as a good film,” he says. “I just feel that I need to focus more and be sure of what content to put out. I’ve

been lucky that I’ve come this far,” adds Saqib, who’ll soon play a gangster.

He seems set to experiment without the fear of failure, we say, and he responds, “Why not explore! Be it the industry’s most successful people or the least successful ones, nobody knows what’s going to work. When a team comes together, we feel it’s going to be the best project in the world. One shouldn’t be jittery. You bring good stories, and the medium will choose the story. One just has to focus on good content; everything else will work.”
