For 90 years now, Lux has been celebrating the leading stars of Bollywood — beautiful women who have broken stereotypes with panache, bold women who have risen above judgement.
In this special 90th year celebration, Lux has extended its support to the UN initiative, HeForShe, in India, and the iconic Lux Golden Rose Awards will see the men of Bollywood pay tribute to these gorgeous women over the decades.
This is especially important at a time when Bollywood and the country are at a turning point about their attitude towards women. Women have always inspired us, not just with their onscreen charisma but also with their off-screen presence. Be it Deepika Padukone standing tall in her fight against depression to emerge as the country’s biggest superstar, or Alia Bhatt, who despite being a star kid, has been extremely experimental in her choice of roles to cement a career for herself in the industry. From Sharmila Tagore, who broke all stereotypes with her swimsuit scene in the 1960s to Kareena Kapoor who walked the ramp with poise and glamour even at the peak of her pregnancy — these women have undoubtedly been huge inspiration to the men in their lives and to the country. It’s only time we celebrate her-story, and her contributions in an unmatched way!
