Starting new initiatives to fight diabetes
On the occasion of World Diabetes Day today and for an impact on diabetes care in the next 3 years, Novo Nordisk Education Foundation and Novo Nordisk India Pvt Ltd launched the ‘1000-day Challenge’ in the Capital.
Through this programme, Novo Nordisk seeks to improve the understanding of the principal factors behind the rise of diabetes in India, develop understanding on uncontrolled diabetes and then share real-world solutions for people with diabetes to live healthier lives.
Those present at the launch included former cricketer and Novo Nordisk Changing Diabetes ambassador, Anil Kumble, along with Danish Ambassador to India, Peter Taksøe-Jensen.
“At Novo Nordisk we have been working for changing diabetes management for nearly 100 years. With this new initiative we have set an ambitious target and we hope to see India emerge as a role model in diabetes management,” said Frederik Kier, SVP, Region AAMEO, Novo Nordisk A/S.
Anil Kumble said, “If we are to have any hope of bending the trajectory of the potentially catastrophic rise in diabetes, we have to work together to fight the factors that put people at risk in the first place. As a sportsperson, I look forward to tough challenges, and with the 1000Day challenge, we are calling on every stakeholder to work collectively.”
Talking about the initiative, Melvin D’souza, managing trustee, Novo Nordisk Education Foundation, said, “The programme exemplifies our commitment towards improving diabetes care. Our aim is clear, which is to try and reduce the average HbA1c in India by at least 1% in partnership with various stakeholders. With this innovative approach we wish to understand some of the key risks and vulnerabilities, and partner in designing interventions that can bend the curve of the prevalence of diabetes.” photo: htcs
In addition, for the first time, real-time data on the state of diabetes care is being made available through an innovative India Diabetes Care Index. t was a grand soiree in the Capital, with Club BW recently hosting a glittering Diwali gettogether. Dressed in brilliantly colourful and elegant traditional attire, the guests raised a toast to the festive season.
Those present at the do included designers Ankita Chaudhry, Shalini Chauhan, Malvika Sehgaal Kaura, Arun Ahuja, John Marya and models Ashhley Sharma, Farhan Khan, Saud Khan, and Shubham Nagar.
