With a lot of interesting projects and as many different characters to play in all of those, actor Satish Kaushik is in a happy place in his career.

Sharing that it’s important to take up different characters as a performer, Kaushik — known largely for his comic performances in films such as Mr India (1987), Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998), and Badhaai Ho Badhaai (2002) — says that he loves it that the audience enjoy his comic roles.

“People still praise my portrayal of Calendar (Mr India, 1987). Imagine a character that I played so many years before is still etched well in the memory of the audience. At the same time I have done films where I played other kinds of characters. My roles in Brick Lane (2007), Udta Punjab (2016) and Soorma were also loved. The reviews were overwhelming. I have no problem playing any character, funny or not, as far as the role touches a chord with the audience,” says Kaushik, who was last seen in the Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Choprastarrer Namaste England.

Kaushik adds that his upcoming assignments include the Salman Khan-starrer Bharat, Mental Hai Kya, and a Haryanvi film.

“In Bharat I play a naval officer. I am not supposed to talk much about it. This is the first time I am wearing uniform in the film. Also, I have lost weight to look the part. I am really excited about it. Shooting for Mental Hai Kya is almost done,” shares the actor, adding that his next directorial, based on a real-life incident, is in the works, and stars actor Pankaj Tripathi.
