Creators and artists wouldn’t want their web freedom curtailed: Amol

- Navya Kharbanda

The recent explosion of content on the everexpanding web streaming industry has opened doors for an unprecedented number of artists. Amol Parashar, too, belongs to a bunch of young actors who began their career with the web world — his portrayal of the zany DJ Chitvan in the web series Tripling earned him considerable popularity with young viewers.

It’s all about opportunities, says Amol. The medium has given artists like him the opportunity to showcase his talent. It has also given makers the chance and the scope to experiment and churn out fresh content.

There has been a lot of talk around web censorship, too, and Amol expresses his disapproval of the idea.

“I don’t think banning content will help. On the [Internet] everyone has the freedom to choose what they want to watch. You can either watch or avoid. As creators and as artists, none of us would enjoy our freedom being curtailed. [However] a sense of responsibility is important when one is creating something for the web,” says Amol, who made his debut with the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year (2009) .

At the moment, a lot of films are being released only on the web. What does the actor think about that? “If the story and character excite you, and you enjoy collaborating with a certain team, it’s not very important where those films land up, as long as they reach the intended audience. For me, the medium takes less precedence than the story I am a part of,” says Amol.
